Vortex series of 5 photographs varying sizes Site situated in the middle of Haghtanac parc on one of the hills in the north overlooking the city of Yerewan, Armenia. To get there from the centre one follows a street north which starts winding up the hill in a wide curve under Mother Armenia, a gigantic monument of a woman holding a sword in her hands overlooking the city (a replacement for an equally gigantic Stalin monument, which had been taken down in 1962). On the way up one passes by the ruins of aragil and at the top you turn right into Azatutyan Avenue where the parc is already to your right. If you don´t take the main entrance you can turn right again at the end of the parc into General Babayan St. There is a neighbourhood bordering the parc with the mansions of the newly rich with swimming pools and well kept gardens. At the next intersection one can cut right into the parc to arrive behind Mother Armenia who is staring in the direction of the holy mountain Ararat which today lies on turkish territory. Behind the statue you find an old fashioned amusement parc from communist days with a big wheel. (There are many of those in Yerewan, most of them falling apart). From there it is really close, only a short walk into the woods, again with a slight bend to the right. |
