This video shows a series of clips which all depict the same scene: a shoe in a river (canal) which despite its position on the water surface does not seem to float with the current. The clips have been filmed in Beijing on the canal that runs along the Mongolian wall. It is not quite clear why people would throw their shoes into it. However, there is a Chinese tradition where people who wish to end a relationship signal this to their partner by buying them a new pair of shoes.
